Why Study Pre-Professional Kinesiology
Students who are interested in pursuing a professional program such as physical therapy (PT) or occupational therapy (OT) should apply for the pre-professional concentration. The courses offered in the concentration are aligned with most pre-requisite requirements for PT, OT, and AT. This program is also for students who wish to get an in-depth understanding of exercise science while also preparing for graduate education, or prepping for the Certified Exercise Physiologist credential through the American College of Sports Medicine, or the Strength and Conditioning Specialist credential through the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
The Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology with a concentration in pre-professional will prepare students to sit for the Exercise Physiologist Certification through the American College of Sports Medicine and the Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist test through the National Strength and Conditioning Association, as well as prepare students for graduate study in Kinesiology or apply for entry into professional programs such as Physical Therapy (PT), Occupational Therapy (OT), and/or Athletic Training (AT).
Many courses in the kinesiology major are taught via a combination of lecture and lab activities to optimize student learning and comprehension of course content. Students will work collaboratively with their faculty members to create a positive and engaging classroom experience.
The faculty who teach in the Kinesiology program have research interests in exercise program design, the Functional Movement Screen (FMS™), exercise and aging adult population, student success/well-being, running injuries and gait biomechanics.
What Will I learn?

- Students enrolled will learn about exercise physiology, anatomy and physiology.
- Students enrolled will learn about biomechanics, exercise testing and prescription.
- Classes were developed to assist with developing the tools necessary to take the certification exams through the American College of Sports Medicine and the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
- Prepares students to enter professional schools.
